The Mayor of Sekondi-Takoradi, Hon. Abdul Mumin-Issah put smiles on the faces of Kindergarten and Class One Pupils when he visited selected
schools in the Metropolis for this year’s ‘My First Day at School’ for new entrants to public basic schools. This day is usually the moment
where kids wonder and find themselves in a strange world for seeing new faces for the first time at school. The mayor distributed to the kids
exercise books, pencils, erasers, school uniforms, candies and biscuits.
In his brief remarks, Hon. Mumin noted that the “My First Day at School” initiative is a move to welcome and encourage children of school
going age into the formal education system. He added that the initiative is not only to increase enrolment but also to ensure that every
Ghanaian Child, who has attained school-going age is in school, in line with the Free Compulsory Basic Education policy of the government.
Hon. Abdul-Mumin Issah who was in the company of Metro Director of Education, Madam Sally Coleman and some officials advised the new entrants
to take their studies seriously and also to be punctual at school and obedient to teachers and the elderly.The schools visited were Mberedane
Basic School, Howard Memorial Primary School, Rev. Cleland STMA Primary School, Kweikuma M/A Basic School, Holy Child Basic School and Nana Nketsia Basic School.
