The Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) has held its third ordinary meeting of the second session of the ninth Assembly to deliberate on key developmental issues aimed at propelling the metropolis to greater heights.
In his opening remarks, the Hon. Presiding Member, Patrick Brempoh, briefed members on the major activities he has participated in since the last sitting. He noted the inauguration of the Western Regional Coordinating Council, participation in the National Conference for Presiding Members in Accra, and the laying to rest of the late Hon. Felicia Odoom, among other significant events. Hon. Brempoh urged Assembly Members to foster unity and cooperation, emphasizing that collective effort remains crucial to achieving the developmental goals of the Metropolis.
Delivering his sessional address, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Fredrick Faustinus Faidoo, announced several administrative and developmental updates. He disclosed that the Essikado-Ketan Sub-Metro Council has temporarily relocated to the Essikado Library to enable the completion of its official office complex.
Hon. Faidoo also highlighted the introduction of a new on-street market day in Takoradi, which commenced on Saturday, 18th October 2025. He explained that the initiative, similar to the traditional market days in Sekondi and Kojokrom, is designed to boost local economic activities, especially following the closure of the Jubilee Market.
He indicated that parts of Kiston Avenue, Ako Adjei Avenue (around Ahenfie Hotel), and Alex Cobbina Road (from Baptist to NIB area) would be temporarily closed on market days to make way for vendors. The initiative, he added, would enhance trade and provide alternative spaces for traders who previously operated around the Jubilee Park without stalls.
The MCE further announced administrative adjustments, noting that the Acting Metropolitan Coordinating Director had proceeded on retirement, paving the way for Mr. Mohammed Alhassan Yakubu from the Asunafo North Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region to assume the role. He also revealed that through the District Assemblies Common Fund, the Assembly has awarded 21 contracts, covering the construction of health centres, classroom blocks, boreholes, toilet facilities, among others. Hon. Faidoo emphasized that these projects reflect the Assembly’s commitment to improving health, education, sanitation, and social infrastructure across the metropolis. He added that road networks will also see significant improvement, supported by the use of the DRIP machines for desilting drains, which is expected to bring relief to residents and enhance mobility within the metropolis.
