In a bid to enhance digital connectivity and support the development of a robust national broadband backbone in the Western Region, management of MTN Ghana has paid a courtesy call on Hon. Fredrick Faustinus Faidoo, Metro Chief Executive (MCE) of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA), to discuss partnership and collaboration for the successful implementation of a fiber broadband project.

Addressing management of STMA, the Team Lead, Ms. Sophia Tandoh, indicated that in line with the government’s digitalization agenda, MTN Ghana is scheduled to commence planned fiber broadband works in March 2026, with completion expected in November 2026. The project will involve the planting of poles and trenching activities across selected communities.

She explained that as a law-abiding corporate institution, the company deemed it necessary to formally introduce its intended activities to the Assembly to ensure smooth execution of the project without disruption, having fulfilled all regulatory requirements for operating within the metropolis.

The initial phase of the expansion will focus on areas including Beach Road, Anaji, Apollo, and Racecourse. Additional communities such as Essipon, Sekondi, and Kweikuma have also been identified by local engineers and earmarked for further discussion and possible inclusion in subsequent phases.

Ms. Tandoh noted that upon completion, the project will significantly enhance digital access, increase internet speeds, and improve service delivery to institutions and individual customers within the metropolis.

In his response, Hon. Fredrick Faustinus Faidoo reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to development initiatives that benefit residents. He urged the MTN team to work closely with city engineers to ensure adherence to safety standards and regulatory guidelines throughout the project.

The MCE further encouraged the company to periodically update the Assembly on its corporate social responsibility initiatives to promote coordinated development efforts, avoid duplication of projects, and ensure resources are directed to areas of greatest need.

The visit concluded with the presentation of a souvenir to the MCE by the MTN
