STMA DISTRIBUTES ITEMS TO 82 PWDS

A total of 82 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis have benefited from the Metropolitan Assembly’s second batch of disbursement of items and cash to support their businesses, education, healthcare and other livelihood needs.

Addressing the beneficiaries at the event held on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 at the Assembly’s premises, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Hon. Fredrick Faustinus Faidoo, explained that the distribution is part of the Assembly’s periodic support to PWDs, helping them pursue various ventures, become self-reliant, and improve their livelihoods.

Hon. Faidoo, quoting the popular Chinese proverb, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime,” said the initiative was intended to empower PWDs to achieve greater independence and live dignified lives despite their disabilities. He added that a total ofGH¢386,854.40 was spent on the exercise, with GH¢112,728.00 provided as cash support and GH¢274,126.40 to procure items for the beneficiaries.

Hon. Faidoo further explained that the Assembly’s evaluation committee carefully assessed the applications and vetted beneficiaries to ensure the items requested would provide meaningful support and improve their livelihoods. He therefore appealed to the beneficiaries to make good use of the items and financial support provided to ensure that the assistance achieved its intended purpose.

The Metro Social Welfare and Community Development Officer, Madam Constance Baiden, indicated that the beneficiaries received support under 11 categories of items. She added that 36 beneficiaries also received cash support for educational, healthcare and economic purposes.

Madam Constance urged the beneficiaries to use the items productively, stating that the Assembly’s monitoring team would continue to visit beneficiaries to assess how the items were used and ensure they were used profitably. She added that the monitoring exercise would help to identify and address the needs of other PWDs within the Metropolis.

Among the items distributed were 17 deep freezers with ice chests, two hand-weaving machines, an industrial overlock machine, five industrial sewing machines, a shoe-making machine, a water pump and accessories, a camera, three laptops, and hairdressing equipment.
